Take it from our students...
"This course has brought me so close to being the badass manager I've always seen myself as. I'm able to take all I've learned, sit with my mentor and create strategies for my future and my clients future in an acute way that has been unattainable for the past 5 years I've worked in this business! Thank you for investing your time in creating this course, enabling us to invest in ourselves. Cheers Jamie!!"
- Dan Carroll, Artist Manager, London, England
"I thought I already knew a lot about the music industry... but then I started this program and realized how much there still was for Jamie to teach me. Her course is straight to the point and tells you what you need to know without fluff or ego. I especially enjoyed the parts about streaming, as it's brand new and wasn't taught at all when I was in school! I left feeling so much more confident in my abilities as an aide to artists. I couldn't recommend Jamie and her program more highly!"
- Paige Williams, Marketing Expert, Toronto, Canada
(Former Universal Music marketing employee, YouTuber, Marketing Consultant, and Aspiring Manager)
"Very much helped me better understand "Failure & Rejection". That is an area I have struggled with for decades.... It better help me validate my thoughts and concerns in regards to the two. Honestly wish I could had addressed this topic 20 years ago! Better late than ever. I am more at peace in regards to this teaching."
- David K Watson, President - Entertainment Enterprises Indy LLC, Indianapolis, Indiana
"Great course! The information is vast and clear. The videos are packed with all the knowledge you need on a particular topic. I would recommend this to anyone in this industry, its one of the best I have participated."

What Exactly Is Each Video Lesson About?
Howdy! I’m your teacher, Jamie New Johnson.
I’m a Toronto-based author, content marketer, artist manager, former coach and college teacher, and current online music business teacher.
I've been in the artist management world since 2011 and started my blog-turned-business SmartBandManagement.com in 2013 to share what I was learning about artist management as I learned it, both from my personal experiences as a manager and from the interviews and workshops I was hosting with expert managers from around the world.
My start in the artist management world began when I landed my dream job managing an organization called the Music Managers Forum Canada. There are about 25 Music Managers Forums’ around the world who all work together under the International Music Managers Forum (which is based out of Luxembourg in Europe).
I was responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of MMF Canada. My main role was to plan workshops for artists and managers to learn from more experienced artist managers from all around the world.
It didn't take long before I realized I wanted to be a manager too. So I got my ass out to some shows, saw a band I loved, chatted with them after the show, and next thing you know we signed a short-term 6-month management agreement.
Since then, I’ve continued in artist management both as an independent manager , and with artist management companies of GRAMMY and JUNO Award Winning artists.
I've worked with artists who write and perform rock, alternative rock, indie pop, pop, R&B, country, electronic, and hip hop music.
The artists I’ve worked with as an independent manager have toured nationally and internationally, they’ve had major television and film placements, opened for world-renowned artists, nominated for JUNO and CCMA awards, had successful crowdfunding campaigns, YouTube and digital streaming success, chart-topping radio hits, and Platinum singles.
I've also had the incredible opportunity to work under and learn from some amazing managers who have managed GRAMMY and JUNO Award winning artists for 30+ years.
The thing is... when I first started, I wasn't learning fast enough. I was planning workshops with managers from around the world, but the issue was that everything was always in-person.
When I Googled something, there wasn't really much available on the topic; plus I didn't want to harass my colleagues with questions every day.
I always wished that there was more online information that would give me step-by-step details.
So instead of waiting for it to happen, I decided to start Smart Band Management and help people out who were having the same challenges I was.
And that's why I'm here. Because no matter where you're at right now, I believe none of us should have to do it alone.
YOU HAVE A GIFT, AND YOU DESERVE TO USE IT
No more wishing and praying
It's time to turn your passion for music into a full-time career that you wake up excited for...
every. damn. day.
